Founded as one of Connecticut’s four original counties in 1666, Hartford County covers approximately 750 square miles in the northern-Central part of the state. The City of Hartford is the county seat of Hartford County and the capital of Connecticut. As of the 2010 Census, Hartford County had a population of 894,014 in 29 towns, making it the second most populous county in Connecticut, with a median household income of $62,590. Hartford County is commonly referred to as “The Insurance Capitol of the World,” with Aetna, Cigna and several other large insurance firms headquartered in the region. In fact, Bloomfield, CT was voted one of the 50 nicest places to live in the US by Reader’s Digest in 2020. 

Major highways in Hartford County include Interstates 91 and 84, and Routes 2, 15 and 44. Connecticut Transit Hartford provides bus service seven days a week throughout 27 towns in the county. The Greater Hartford Transit District also offers transportation and transit-related support services while working to attain capital for use on viable transportation systems. Bradley International Airport is found in the City of Hartford.
