Hudson County, NJ is the smallest county in the state and one of the most densely populated counties in the United States, with a population of 634,266 as of the 2010 Census. Jersey City is the county seat and the largest city in the county. Hudson County and the Hudson River on its eastern border are named for English explorer and navigator Henry Hudson, who established a claim for the area in 1609.

The Hudson County Department of Education leads 13 school districts, 12 public high schools and 13 charter schools in the county’s 12 municipalities. The Hudson County School of Technology is a public secondary and adult vocational-technical school with four locations. Hudson County Community College, New Jersey City University, St. Peter’s College and Stevens Institute of Technology are all in Hudson County.
