Nestled among rolling hills, wide valleys and spectacular lakes about 25 miles west of New York City, Morris County, NJ was named after Lewis Morris, the first governor of New Jersey.  As of the 2010 Census, Morris County had a population of 492,276.

Morris County is the eighth wealthiest county in the nation with a median household income of $96,316.  The area workforce exceeds 240,000 thanks in large part to the many Fortune 500 companies, worldwide brands and top research centers that are either headquartered or operate major facilities in Morris County. 

Commuters have easy access to all 39 municipalities of Morris County, surrounding counties and New York City via train and bus. NJ Transit’s commuter train network, including the Morristown Line, Gladstone Branch and Montclair-Boonton Line, offers connections with PATH, MTA, Amtrak, SEPTA, PATCO and other services.  Route 287 runs north and south through Morris County, connecting drivers to major east-west roadways, like Routes 80, 280 and 24.

When New Jersey Monthly named the Top High Schools of 2010, 10 of Morris County’s 22 high schools ranked in the top 50.  Students may continue their education at the County College of Morris, the College at Florham campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University, Drew University or the College of Saint Elizabeth.  For a complete list of Morris County school districts, colleges and universities, click here.

Morris County has the largest county park system by acreage in New Jersey with more than 18,000 acres of parkland, from historic sites and golf courses to conservation areas and ice skating at Mennen Sports Arena.  Walkers and cyclists enjoy Morris County’s four major trails – Columbia Trail, Loantaka Trail, Patriot’s Path and Traction Line Trail.
Whether you’re looking for a great burger, a cup of tea or upscale dining, Morris County has a little bit of everything.  In New Jersey Monthly’s 28th Annual Readers’ and Critics’ Choice Restaurant Poll, Texas Smoke in Rockaway, Copeland in Morristown and Mehndi in Morristown were all among the winners.  The Cosy Cupboard Tea Room in Convent Station, the Auld Shebeen in Whippany and the Black Horse Tavern & Pub in Mendham are also popular dining destinations.

If you love spending a day at the mall, you’ll want to visit Rockaway Townsquare Mall, one of the largest and most modern malls in New Jersey.  If downtown villages and charming shops are more your speed, Denville and Madison have what you’re looking for.
