Fast-Casual Chain Diversifies Mixed-Use Development’s Dining Options

Chipotle at MainStreet NB

NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. (April 9, 2024) – Fast casual restaurant Chipotle Mexican Grill recently celebrated its grand opening at 240 Grand Ave. in North Brunswick, bringing another quality fast-casual dining option to Garden Commercial’s MainStreet NB. The mixed-use, transit-oriented development is located at 2300 Route 1.

Chipotle’s new, 2,600-square-foot restaurant features the chain’s popular “Chipotlane,” a digital order-ahead pickup window that increases access and convenience for guests. Renowned for its Mexican-inspired offerings of burritos, bowls, tacos, quesadillas, salads and more, Chipotle currently has more than 3,400 restaurants in North America and Europe.

“We are so pleased to welcome Chipotle to MainStreet NB,” said Michael Gartenberg, director of Garden Commercial. “This high-quality tenant is a terrific traffic driver and one that expands and diversifies this project’s dining options. Chipotle is a great fit both for this property and the neighborhood.” Gartenberg served as in-house representative for the Chipotle lease; the tenant was represented by Glenn Beyer of Newmark.

The Chipotle opening follows another fast-casual dining addition at MainStreet NB. Burger chain Shake Shack launched a new 3,500-square-foot restaurant with double drive-thru at the property in January. Anchored by Costco and Target, MainStreet NB’s retail component also features Panera Bread and The Greene Turtle Sports Bar and Grill.

MainStreet NB is located on the 212-acre former Johnson & Johnson North Brunswick campus. The development also includes a proposed NJ Transit rail station, a Courtyard by Marriott hotel and office space. Its residential component includes 242 luxury rental apartments and duplexes currently under construction by Garden Communities, an affiliate of Garden Commercial, as well as 158 for-sale townhomes developed by Pulte Homes.

Garden Commercial commenced development of the multi-phase MainStreet NB in 2010. “Mixed-use, transit-oriented projects can revitalize entire communities,” said Garden Commercial’s Jonathan Frieder, managing partner. “Our goal with MainStreet NB was to leverage this property’s potential to achieve its best and highest next generation use. It is gratifying to watch MainStreet NB come to life and contribute to North Brunswick’s vibrancy.”
